Fine Motor Skills Activities for Kids

Fine motor skills are the small, precise movements of the fingers and hands: holding a pencil, doing up buttons, using a spoon or turning a page.

Strong fine motor control makes everyday tasks easier and gives children confidence at school. Research has linked fine motor skills at school entry with later learning, which is why so many parents look for playful ways to practise.

The BeasyBuds Finger Gym range isolates individual fingers and practises finger separation, the building blocks of a good pencil grip.

Where children use it every day

Questions

Parents ask

What are good fine motor activities for a 5 year old?

Finger Colour Tap (each finger has its own colour), Colour Coding: Mark the Dots and Colour Dot Friends are great fine motor practice for five-year-olds.

Do these activities help with handwriting?

They practise the finger control and two-hand coordination that handwriting relies on. They are playful practice, not a handwriting programme or therapy.
